There, they built saw mills and grist mills, established ferrying services, and opened pottery shops. Many wealthy Atlantans also began building their own summer vacation homes in Buckhead. Soon, neighborhoods and subdivisions began to flourish. In 1952, the city officially became a part of Atlanta.
