The lands that make up present-day East Cobb were home to the Cherokee before the Gold Rush brought settlers to the region. Georgia awarded thousands of parcels called Land Lots, each roughly 40 acres, to eligible settlers during the Gold Lottery of 1832 and 1833. The Land Lot system is still used to describe parcels of land in Cobb County.
Two settlers, Samuel and Isaac Sewell, purchased property totaling 80 acres from Gold Lottery winners. They established the Sewell Mill, the ruins of which still stand on Sewell Mill Road. Many of the streets and schools on the antebellum map of the area were named for these early landowners. East Cobb at one time included the city of Chattahoochee Plantation, whose former city limit signs still stand on its borders.
East Cobb's idyllic streets are lined with locally owned restaurants, small parks, and independent shops. Residents also have access to cultural venues, well-maintained golf courses, and some of the best community parks in Cobb County.
